So back in the begining of May I was pushing Lyla on her tricycle across the street and when I placed my hand on her back it felt really weird. I pulled up her shirt and she had a lump on her shoulder blade. You could have easily missed it but it was there. So we took her in to the doctor and he had no idea what it could be. He asked if she had had a bruise there from the accident at one time but she hadn't and it had been 10 months since the accident. So he made an appointment to have an ultrasound done- Lyla fell asleep on the way to the hospital and slept through the whole thing and in the end we found out that it was a lump on her shoulder blade- So nothing! Then they made an appointment for an MRI. So they made the appointment at Primary Children's uptown and we headed up there bright an early and then waited for over an hour for someone to come get us. So then I made the mistake of telling them Lyla had a sip (and I mean the smallest sip someone could have) of milk, they checked her all in and got her vitals and then the lady said "really all of our MRI machines are full and since you gave her milk 4 hours ago we are going to send you home". AHHHH seriously. I know it's my fault for letting her and then telling them but really it was a sip and it was 4 hours ago and she is so hungry! Anyway we re-made the appointment for the next day at the Riverton Primary Children's Outpatient clinic. They were awesome. These pictures of from there. It is so quiet and you get right in. It's amazing people let me tell you! Anyway they had to put her to sleep for the MRI so they had me hold her while they did the IV and this is what Lyla said in the tiniest voice you could have missed it -"ouch". And that was it. It didn't even faze her. She loved all the nurses and being that it was so quiet made it soooo nice.
Lyla woke up an hour before they said she would and was happy and we went home. It took us longer at Primary Children's the day before than for the entire the hour long test to actually get done at Riverton.
Lyla came home and built castles and watched movies and was dizzy and constantly falling over all day. It was so funny! In the end the MRI told us also that it was a lump on her shoulder blade. THANKS - I'm so glad you are all telling me what I figured out in 2 min looking at her at home.
So at the end of June we scheduled a Surgical Biopsy. They had to put her under again and actually cut open her skin and take a piece of the lump. She did so well before surgery again. She even kissed me goodbye and went off with the nurse. (We did this one up at Primary Children's because of scheduling, it went ok but after being at the other office its so crazy and loud there.) Lyla woke up SOOO mad this time. She was so mad and yelled and cried and screamed for over an hour. So this time we actually got an answer as to what this lump was.
It is a rare benign tumor called Lipoblastoma. We still have not had the follow up to talk to the doctor about what he will do for treatment but last I talked to him he said that it would just keep getting bigger and they would definitely have to take it out. It definitely has gotten bigger already because you could not miss it now.
We love our little Lyla Belle. We are so grateful that it wasn't something more scary! Thank you all for all your thoughts and prayers over her!
